Bhavani Lee is a gifted performer whose work in dance, choreography and theatre is deeply rooted in the eastern traditions and the relationship between mind, body, and soul.

An accomplished classical Indian Kathak dancer, Bhavani was raised on an ashram in upstate New York, where she was introduced to the discipline at the age of five. The ashram environment and the tradition of yoga and meditation nurtured Bhavani.  The beauty and lyricism in her movements are informed by these first years of study. She credits her early interest in art and expression to her mother's influence or as she tells it, "...perhaps it's my Hungarian gypsy blood that drives me when I perform and create."

The ashram was a wellspring of inspiration shared with some of the world's greatest masters of dance, music and yoga, molding her development as a dancer with its variety of expression and emphasis on mind-body-spirit connection.

Going on to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC, Bhavani took quickly to new forms, embracing flamenco, contemporary dance, and theatre. She has since trained with the most respected dance masters in India, including Pt. Birju Maharaj and Pt. Satya Narayana Charka.

Using each method or style as a means to express and articulate a story, her versatile performances are tied together by a graceful force and simple vision of the unity between mind, body, and soul.

Bhavani's recent work includes choreography and dance for fashion shows, film, Bollywood and theatre, including a touring role as a principal dancer in the worldwide production of Cirque du Soleil's Dralion. She has collaborated on projects such as Oscar Riquelme's "Painted Dance" and worked with the Kalapriya dance company.

In addition to her performance and choreography work, Bhavani teaches many classes and workshops in Ancient Indian dance, Yoga and Devi Moves workout.
